For Malaysian applicants, ANU’s Diploma entry equivalency table lists STPM best-three at 6, STPM best-four at 5 and UEC at 24. These entries correspond to the selection-rank-70 Diploma threshold. When reading an entry table, keep the qualification row and the Diploma threshold together; a Bachelor entry column answers a different question.
Read the STPM and UEC rows separately
The Diploma threshold equivalencies are:
| Qualification entry | Value at the Diploma threshold |
|---|---|
| STPM best 3 | 6 |
| STPM best 4 | 5 |
| UEC | 24 |
The two STPM entries use different subject groupings. Keep each value attached to its stated grouping rather than treating both as a single STPM requirement.
The available extract gives the threshold values but does not explain the underlying grade-to-score calculation. It therefore supports a comparison of the listed entries, without providing enough detail to calculate an individual applicant’s score from a results slip.
Diploma entry and Bachelor entry serve different routes
ANU Pathway Diplomas are intended for applicants with a selection rank of 70–79.99. Applicants with a selection rank of 80 or above should apply for a Bachelor degree and cannot commence a Pathway Diploma.
This distinction matters when a qualification table presents several entry columns. For the Diploma route, read the qualification row against the Diploma threshold. Do not substitute a Bachelor entry value for the STPM or UEC values above.
The academic threshold is also separate from the English requirement. Direct entry requires IELTS 6.5 overall, with no band below 6.0, or an equivalent result. Meeting a listed academic threshold does not establish that every admission condition has been met.
What the Diploma leads to
ANU Pathway Diplomas are standalone AQF Level 5 qualifications, taught in person at ANU’s Acton Campus in Canberra. Each takes 12 months full-time, across two semesters and eight courses. Students take first-year courses shared with Bachelor students, alongside Academic Skills for University Study.
For international applicants, the study plan must package the Diploma with a Bachelor degree. It cannot be based on an intention to complete only the one-year Diploma.
Progression depends on the aligned degree and the required Diploma GPA:
| Diploma | Aligned Bachelor options | Required Diploma GPA |
|---|---|---|
| Business and Economics | Accounting; Business Administration; Commerce; Economics; Finance | 4.0 |
| Computing | Computing | 4.0 |
| Politics and International Relations | Asian Studies | 4.0 |
| Politics and International Relations | International Relations; International Security Studies; Political Science; Public Policy | 4.6 |
The aligned route provides one year of credit, equivalent to 48 units. Applying for a different Bachelor degree changes that position: admission is assessed on the basis of one year of undergraduate study at ANU, and credit is considered case by case. A full year of credit is not guaranteed when changing programs.
Keep tuition separate from the full study budget
The 2027 indicative annual tuition fee is AUD 57,640 for each Pathway Diploma. This covers the Diploma’s indicative annual tuition, not the total cost of the Diploma-plus-Bachelor sequence.
Financial planning needs to cover that full sequence. The Diploma fee alone does not describe the cost of completing the intended Bachelor degree.
For an initial assessment, keep these details together:
- The exact qualification: STPM or UEC.
- The relevant STPM subject grouping, where applicable.
- The Diploma threshold value.
- The English-language result.
- The intended aligned Bachelor degree and its progression GPA.
- Funding for the Diploma and subsequent Bachelor study.
That gives a clearer basis for assessing the pathway than reading an isolated score from an entry table.
